The Berrien County Health Department received authorization from the Board of Commissioners to apply for up to 200,000 in grant funding from the WIC Maternal Health Center at UNC Chapel Hill. The grant, titled “Recognizing & Addressing Urgent Maternal Warning Signs During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period,” will fund an education initiative to increase awareness of urgent maternal warning signs and support referrals for higher levels of care. If awarded, the grant will cover staff travel to North Carolina for training, staff time for project implementation and oversight, and media outreach activities from November 2, 2026 through October 31, 2028. This creates a prospective need for curriculum development, training materials, health communications, and targeted media/marketing services to reach WIC and maternal health clients. Vendors with experience in maternal health education, culturally competent outreach, or public health campaign execution could help the department design and deliver effective training content and media strategies once funding is confirmed.
